Bill Schoonmaker is the Chief Commercial Officer of the Sport & Entertainment Corporation of Maryland (Sport Corp) where he oversees revenue and fundraising for the organization and it’s portfolio of properties, including the Preakness Festival, The Maryland Cycling Classic and The Maryland 5 Star at Fair Hill.
Bill has spent more then 3 decades in executive positions with global and domestic brands, agencies and sports properties developing and leading high-impact teams and strategies. His experience spans international, professional, collegiate, youth, and amateur sports and includes teams and premier events in the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, PGA, ATP, and NCAA, as well as the Olympic Games, Prince Harry’s Invictus Games, Special Olympics USA Games, Men’s World Lacrosse Championships, Sport Fishing Championship and many others.
Most recently, Bill was the Vice President, Sales & Business Development for Sport Fishing Championship where he was responsible for the professional offshore fishing league’s sponsorship, media relationships, and strategic partnerships. Prior roles include President & Founder of MOTIVATE Sports Group and Chief Operating Officer of USA Lacrosse, which brought him and his family to Maryland.
Bill has worked with various international, state and regional sports tourism organizations and served on the Board of Directors of the Sport Corp, prior to joining the staff.
As an expert in the sports and entertainment business, Bill has appeared in Forbes Magazine, Sports Business Journal, Sports Business Daily, The New York Post, ABC News.com, ESPN, CNN International, and other media and networks.
Bill graduated from The Pennsylvania State University and resides in Parkton, Maryland with his wife, Suzanne, and his children, Will, Hannah and Matthew.
